Guernsey Electricity is leading the way in introducing 'smart' metering technology. We are installing self-reading meters in more than 25,000 local homes and businesses, which will not only signal the end of estimated accounts, but could also help to reduce carbon emissions.

By providing customers with more timely and accurate information on their energy usage they are able to monitor their consumption better and cut down on any unnecessary usage.

In 2005 our project received international recognition when it was named Best Automatic Meter Reading Initiative in Europe at the 2005 Metering Awards. As well as enabling better billing, it is also helping in the early detection of faults in the network, providing further benefits to customers.
